How We Started

Crocus Academy Main Street opened in August of 2003 when Brenda Hagan had the desire for her children to get a different type of preschool experience. Brenda had been a preschool teacher and administrator for 10 years when she decided that she wanted to open her own center. Her desire was to create an environment with low staff to child ratios and a structured curriculum designed to make learning fun while still preparing children for school. Her first center was located in downtown Bardstown. Brenda’s family helped her open the first school by painting, putting up wallpaper, and decorating the rooms. Her mother and four daughters have all worked at the center. Crocus Academy has always been and still remains a family run business.

We offer low child to staff ratios, experienced and educated staff and an excellent learning environment. We not only prepare students academically, but with a Christian curriculum, we also teach life lessons that foster spiritual growth and good character.

A crocus can bloom anywhere and, in any environment, and we want to support that kind of strength in our students.”
